Vuelo: A New Commercial Hub Takes Shape at Tiefenbrunnen Station
A quiet but significant transformation is underway along the Bellerivestrasse in Zürich's Seefeld district. Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) is developing Vuelo, a new commercial and services building on the grounds adjacent to Tiefenbrunnen station — one of the more substantial construction projects the neighbourhood has seen in years.
For the many residents of Seefeld and neighbouring Zollikon who pass through Tiefenbrunnen daily — whether commuting, heading to the lake, or running errands — the station is already a familiar node. Vuelo aims to build on that foot traffic, bringing together office and service space, retail, and food and beverage offerings in a denser, more organised footprint. The station forecourt itself will also be reconfigured as part of the works.
Progress on-site remains modest for now, with the more visible construction phases still ahead. The project will roll out in stages, and its full impact on the area's character — and commercial landscape — will only become clear over time.
Local voices are cautiously optimistic. Enrico Wieland of Schreinerei Ernst Wieland AG sees Vuelo creating an attractive draw and strengthening the connection between Seefeld and Zollikon. Resident Mark Eberle calls the upgrade long overdue, adding that he is watching to see how the new structure benefits the surrounding area.
As with any neighbourhood-scale development, the tension between revitalisation and preserving local identity will bear watching. For now, Tiefenbrunnen is a station in transition.
