Beckenhofpark Inauguration
On 18 May, between 17:00 and 19:00, the Beckenhofpark in Kreis 6 will be officially reopened with an inauguration celebration — marking the end of a restoration that began in February 2025.
The park's history runs deep. Around 1735, Anna Elisabeth Grebel transformed the existing estate into a grand baroque showpiece, with chestnut-lined avenues, fountains, and gardens stretching down to what is now the Wasserwerkstrasse. The Grebels lived lavishly here until the Junker reportedly gambled away his entire fortune in a single night. The estate changed hands repeatedly, Stampfenbachstrasse was cut through the gardens in the 1860s, and the baroque estate gradually shrank into the neighbourhood park it is today.
The restoration by Grün Stadt Zürich has refreshed the lighting, restored the historic fencing, upgraded the playground with new equipment and a water play area, and replanted trees throughout.
For a densely built neighbourhood like Unterstrass, it's one of the few proper green spaces available. On 18 May, it's back in full.
