Activ Fitness to Open at Zurich's Limmatplatz

The former Alnatura organic supermarket space at Zurich's Limmatplatz has found a new tenant. Activ Fitness will open a gym at the central location before the end of the year, the company confirmed.

The roughly 1,200 square metre space will offer weights and cardio equipment, functional training, group fitness classes, and a wellness area. A precise opening date has not yet been set, according to company spokesperson Silvia Talabér.

The move comes with a trade-off: Activ Fitness will close its existing branch at Langstrasse 192, just 350 metres away. The Limmatplatz location was deemed more attractive due to its more central position.

Activ Fitness is part of Movemi AG, a Migros Group subsidiary based in Zurich Oerlikon, which also operates the Fitnesspark chain. Together, Movemi claims to be Switzerland's largest fitness provider, with over 140 facilities, 4,200 staff, and 280,000 members.

The Limmatplatz site had sat empty since Migros closed all 25 of its Alnatura bio supermarkets at the end of last year, after the franchise agreement between the two companies — in place since 2012 — expired and was not renewed. German drugstore chain Müller subsequently took over eleven of the former Alnatura sites, while Migros sought an in-house solution for Limmatplatz, directly opposite its own headquarters.
